棟上げ=上棟 [MUNEAGE=JOUTOU] (むねあげ=じょうとう)
When a house is built, the framework is completed and the 棟木 [MUNAGI] (むなぎ) “ridge beam” is raised on top of it for the final time.
*上棟式 [JOUTOU SHIKI] (じょうとうしき) : At this time, the guardian deities of the land and the building and the gods of artisanship are enshrined, and thank them for the progress of the construction so far and to pray for the safe completion of the building from now on.
